Job description
Role Summary
We are seeking a skilled Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Developer with strong expertise in AL programming language and a deep understanding of financial and ERP processes. Hays has recently upgraded our internal financial system to Business Central, and this is an opportunity for an experienced developer to build upon our solid foundation and help us improve processes and procedures.
The ideal candidate will have a financial background (or solid experience in this area) and will be able to work with and train other development team members (of all levels) to upskill in the specifics of Business Central development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain solutions as required by the business
- Sizing and estimating of work
- Coach developers to improve their skills and understanding of the Business Central system
- Provide technical support for the Business Central system as part of the wider team
- Maintain and develop integration with 3rd party and other internal systems
- Identify and suggest opportunities to improve systems and underlying data through continuous improvement
- Take responsibility for Information Security in compliance with ISO27001
- Other duties as required
Competencies Required
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms
- Attention to detail & accuracy

- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
Technical Skills Required
- Proven experience in AL language and the BC development environment (Visual Studio Code, Git, Docker)
- Strong understanding of financial and accounting processes (GL, AP/AR, banking, inventory, fixed assets, etc.).
- Familiarity with standard software development practices and tools (e.g. CI/CD, Agile, DevOps)
- Knowledge of other languages (e.g. .NET, SQL) desirable but not essential
- Knowledge of wider Dynamics 365 functions (PowerApps / Power Automate) desirable but not essential
- Knowledge of reporting suites (particularly Power BI) desirable but not essential
Qualifications/Experience Required
- Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Microsoft Business Central developer
- Experience at coaching technical teams
- Experience in working with and managing stakeholders in a finance team
