We are looking for a health and safety assistant to join our team based in our Head Office in Sunderland. 

 

To assist in developing, reviewing, checking, and monitoring the implementation of risk assessments, safe systems of work, procedures and processes highlighting areas of potential improvement, monitoring, tracking and closing out actions, complementing standards as required. Ensure that all accidents and incidents are documented, recorded, investigated, and recommended improvements are implemented.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate health & safety requirements across the organisation
  • Implement training packs to comply with legislation, including first aid and fire warden training
  • Responsible for carrying out fire drills and any other safety checks required by legislation
  • To review current practices and suggest ways of improvement
  • Be able to assess risks through weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual audits
  • Facilitate maternity, disability and medical condition assessments in the workplace
  • Be able to identify potential hazards companywide, ensuring measures are in place to prevent risks
  • Promote general safety and housekeeping
  • Investigate incidents & accidents and propose recommendations for action/improvement
  • To improve monitoring procedures

  • Capable of demonstrating a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines of self and others
  • Positive attitude with a commitment to providing a safe environment for people to work in
  • Promote and maintain the profile of health & safety
  • Proactive and self motivated with a hands on approach
  • Ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organisation

 

Technical Skills Required

  • Basic knowledge of computer systems i.e. Microsoft Word and Excel with the ability to utilise its key functionalities
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills
  • File management skills
  • Web Navigation Skills

 

Qualifications/Experience required

  • English & Maths grade 4 or above

 

General

  • To be committed and dedicated to completing the customer service Apprenticeship programme within the 12 month timescale, attending all relevant training workshops
  • To undertake any other duties that may fall into the job criteria
  • To conform with all company policies and procedures including Health and Safety
  • To treat all employees, customer and suppliers with dignity and respect
