Job description

Overall Purpose:

To provide high-quality support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), enabling them to access learning and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support in the Classroom:

  • Assist the L&D Coaches in delivering lessons, providing additional support as needed.

  • Work with individuals or small groups of students, tailoring support to their specific needs.

  • Use a range of teaching strategies and resources to engage and motivate apprentices.

  • Encourage positive behaviour and create a supportive learning environment.

  • Individual Support:

  • Provide one-to-one support to apprentices with complex needs, EHC Plans and following individual education plans (IEPs).

  • Promote independence and self-esteem in students.

  • Complete monthly support sessions for learners following a neurodiversity plan.

  • Communication and Collaboration:

  • Maintain regular communication with the Learning and Development Coach, safeguarding and management team to share observations and progress updates.

  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists.

  • Attend and contribute to meetings, reviews and parent consultations.

  • Record Keeping and Administration:

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and interventions.

  • Prepare and organise learning materials as required.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant qualifications in education or childcare (preferred)
  • Experience working with children with SEND
  • Strong understanding of child development and learning theories
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude 1
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances
  • Strong organisational and time management skills

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

  • Knowledge of specific SEN conditions and strategies
  • Experience using assistive technology
  • First aid qualification
